Welcome to the Life Force clubs’ first newsletter, written by Sue Pollock.
Many of you know me from Ballina Naturopathics Health Clinic, some know me from previous articles published in such magazines as the “Here & Now”, the “Art of Healing” and in various newspapers, seminars and lectures. I thank you all for joining me.
The aim of the newsletters is to continue to bring you articles and information on health and healing as well as a few other tid-bits from time to time. I hope you enjoy them.
Initially there may be a few “teething” problems as I work with this new program, so I welcome any feedback or notification of any problems you have with viewing the material, both content or presentation.

Free Massage: A technique to share
I attend a great Qigong class presented by Suzanne Rienits and she shared a wonderful technique that I would like to share with you. I call it a free massage because it is a way of loosening up the tension in your muscles without the cost of getting a massage. It doesn’t replace the human touch, but it is a good one for in-between massages that you can do daily.
The technique also helps to stimulate the acupuncture points to assist in clearing any “blocked chi” in the meridians that can affect the organs function in the body. So it’s like a body tune-up too. Firstly find yourself two tennis balls (preferably cheap ones that you don’t use for tennis as they tend to get flattened after a while).
Place the tennis balls firstly at the back of the head at the top of the neck. You may have to hold them in place for this one. Feel yourself melt over the balls. Then proceed to move the balls down either side of your spine, melting over them for about 30secs to a minute or two depending on the tension there. You may have to use a towel or cushion in certain areas to support any curves in the spine or head from being elevated by the balls.
Move the balls across the shoulders and don’t forget the buttocks and down the legs. When doing the sides of the legs you will have to one leg at a time and roll to one side. You can also run the balls down your arms. Great for relaxing the tension in you arms from a game of tennis.
Don’t leave out the lower legs as this is the area that actually helps relax the upper body. Lastly finish with doing the feet. One foot at a time stand on a tennis ball so that the ball is on the padded upper part of you foot called ‘the ball of the foot’.
This technique is best done at night before bed to help relax you for sleeping. Enjoy!

Recipe of the month:
Cinnamon, Apple, Nutty Muesli
A great breakfast for those looking for a low carbohydrate, high fibre, no wheat, gluten, dairy, sugar muesli type feast for the morning or a snack.
Ingredients
- 1 cup flax meal
- 1 cup almond meal
- 1 cup hazelnut meal
- 1 cup sunflower seeds
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecan nuts
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup chopped Brazil nuts
- 1 cup chopped macadamia nuts
- 1 cup chopped dried apple
- 4 tsp cinnamon
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl or container (store in fridge)
To serve; measure out ½ cup of the mix into a breakfast bowl and serve with no added sugar soy milk. (Hot or cold) Enjoy!
Tip- I use Melrose Omega Fibre for the flax meal and fresh nuts and seeds. I suggest not using the LSA that you find in the supermarkets as it contains an additive-have a look next time you’re shopping. You can make your own nut and seed meal by using a seed grinder. I bought one very cheap from ‘Chandlers’ electrical store.

The funny files
Photogenic?
When I went to get my driver’s license renewed, our local Motor Vehicle Bureau was packed.
The line inched along for almost an hour until the man ahead of me finally got his license.
He inspected his photo for a moment and commented to the clerk, “I was standing in line so long, I ended up looking pretty grouchy in this picture.”
The clerk looked at his picture closely, and reassured him, “Its okay. That’s how you’re going to look when the cops pull you over anyway.”
